02 Feb Weight Loss Berry Smoothie Recipe
Breakfast is an important meal to get right when you’re trying to lose weight. Typical breakfasts like cereal and toast are not something we, as nutritionists, would recommend for a healthy start to the day. Based on starchy carbohydrates, often with added sugars, these breakfasts are not supportive of weight loss.
An ideal breakfast should be tasty, healthy and filling enough to take you through to lunch, but also speedy and practical to fit into a busy morning. A well structured berry smoothie can tick all of these boxes.

WHY IS THIS BERRY SMOOTHIE PERFECT FOR WEIGHT LOSS?
This berry smoothie is perfect if you’re looking to lose weight. It’s low in sugar, unlike many other smoothies which contain high amounts of sugar from fruits and fruit juices. Eating too much sugar is one of the fastest ways to lose weight, even if it does come from fruit. It contains three servings of fruit and vegetables which provide fibre to fill you up and keep you satisfied. It contains healthy fats and provides a good source of protein from quality protein powder. Along with fibre, protein is essential for helping to ensure this smoothie leaves you satisfied and not hungry again an hour later. Protein is also essential for maintaining muscle mass. When losing weight, optimising your protein intake is key to ensure it’s fat you’re losing, not muscle. Our smoothie is packed full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to support many aspects of your health and wellbeing. It’s low in carbohydrates and the carbs it does contain are slow releasing carbs. This means they are digested more slowly by the body, keeping blood sugar levels stable.
Whizz it up in a NutriBullet, smoothie maker, jug blender or even with a hand blender. If weight loss is one of your goals, this berry smoothie is a treat that can stay on the menu.
WEIGHT LOSS BERRY SMOOTHIE RECIPE
- 80g frozen mixed berries
- Half a medium courgette or two florets of cauliflower (you can use frozen)
- A serving of SunWarrior Vegan Berry Protein
- Half an avocado (you can use frozen or fresh)
- Unsweetened dairy free milk or water – enough to reach desired consistency
Simply throw all of the ingredients into your blender, blitz and enjoy…
If you want to mix up your smoothie from the above, just remember to add all the key elements. Start with a base of nut milk, water or coconut water, add protein powder, a healthy fat (avocado, nuts, seeds or coconut / MCT oil), vegetables (courgette, cauliflower or spinach work well), and a portion of fruit (lower sugar fruits like berries are ideal). You can also add in health-boosting ingredients such as a chunk of fresh ginger, spirulina or collagen powder.
